I’m searching for and kicking around the idea of getting a space to do some metalworking and whatnot, and came across one of these “storage condo” things. Apparently $175,000US gets you an 800sf (74 sq meter) garage bay with a supposed 300sf mezzanine level and a single 220v outlet (amperage unspecified ) and a natural gas space heater. Seems... expensive.

RV plug ins are typically 30 amps.

They built some (admittedly very nice) garage condo things in my city. Tough sell as they cost more than a nice house and weren't particularly well located.

That’s already legal here in your own home, if it’s under 6 plants.

That should be $40k tops.

Looks a reasonable size to be useful. Though one socket and that price. Nope.

A quarter million Australian dollars...or about double and then quite some of what we spent on our much much bigger space. Solid CP.

Eleven hundred square feet of empty shell for $175k? Nope, not unless it’s sitting next to some heavenly tropical beach.

Wow. I rent a space about half this size, with heat, for $50 a month.
I love the midwest.

If it were $40k, I’d jump on it in an instant! I don’t really care what part of town it’s in, if it’s even in town at all, this is really more of a long night/weekend workshop space. Unfortunately things here are crazy expensive.

That’s good to know. Suitable for a solid sized tig welder and a plasma cutter, but unfortunately not for $175k

But you’re not allowed to sell them to pay your mortgage. ;)
My real point though is it seems expensive for what it is and I find it hard to imagine the place producing enough of anything to actually pay for itself. ( Unless it were stuffed with copious amounts of ganja and civil forfeiture wasn’t a thing.)

If this diagram
is to be believed, they’re doing okay (assuming all those “
reserved”
turn into sales).
Since it’s by the Jenks airport, one does have to wonder how many who bought one of these also have an airplane and money to burn.
Sell the hangar, rent space for the airplane, and buy a garage condo instead ? Who knows...

Step one: buy cheap land 45 minutes outside of Denver.
Step two: buy cheap shipping container and some generators. Maybe a bucket.
Step three: weekend getaway.

Nice, we need to relocate our workshop for work soon - it’s a two car garage with attic now and is just about right. I’d love something slightly bigger in an industrial park but $$$$

Lol I know it’s gotten much more insane since I left half a decade ago, but I’ve seen that you can still get land around Bennett or points east-er for $40-50k/acre. You’d only need a quarter acre to stick a shipping box ;)

Wow that is better than expected. They seemed like cool places but (A) IIRC didn’t list prices on the website, which was annoying and (B) hard to justify when real estate is so cheap here. (Says the guy who hasn’t been able to buy a shop and should probably keep quiet)

That would cost $300k here, with no mezz but a small washroom. Sol as a commercial condo.

Thats what I paid for my 1300 sq. ft. house back in 2010. Oh, Highlands Ranch. Yeah, I’ve been loking as well and its silly. You just might check out buying a house with a detached 2 car, then renting the house. I don’t know where your coming from but up by me there was a place selling workspace in mini storage form, for car people/business people, that wasnt too horrible but it was probably the same pricing your seeing there.
